When i open windows explorer it takes about 3 seconds to open then works fine. I have a lower spec machine but it does not suffer the same problem. Can anyone suggest a fix

Thanks

are they networked? If so have you got drive letters mapped? If so then the network drive you have mapped might be big and deep in directory structure. Explorer is caching the contents of this mapped drive in those 3 seconds for imediate viewing when it does come up. If not networked then I don't know!

If you have a CD in your CDROM drive that is just sitting there, when you open Windows Explorer, it will read the cd before it opens so it will be ready for you when it does open. That will cause a delay in Explorer opening.

My pc's are networked and i do have mapped drives. I can't say that my slower machine has mapped drives but i will disconnect them to see if that is causing the delay. Also i sometimes have a cd in my drive.

Thanks very much for your time and help and i will let you know how i get on
Thanks again
