I have a laptop and my desktop PC both still on Win7.
I also have a NAS with 4 3TB HDDs in RAID 5.
On both, I have disabled Windows Search and Indexing, because it just sucks.
I have recently had to reinstall my desktop following an incomprehensible crash that wiped the boot sector. So, reinstall and then load the backup and what ? The backup is not compatible with my Windows ? What ? Grr. Fine, just go to Windows Update and redo everything then. Two days wasted, and I found a different backup system that works.
Ok, everything's fine, except that my desktop now spends an inordinate amount of time displaying the files in the folders on my NAS.
Example : one of my NAS folders has 534 files and 6 folders. If I right-click and ask for Properties, the result is immediate. When I click on said folder in Windows Explorer, it takes the system no less than 13.2 seconds (yes, I timed it) to display a random list of growing file names, before finally sorting them out in a useful way and giving me the right to work again.
On my laptop, the same display is immediate.
Obviously, there is some setting that I have on my laptop that I don't have on my desktop anymore, but what is it ?
Oh, and yes, I have disabled Windows Search on the desktop, just like the laptop.
Can anyone give me a clue ?
Thanks in advance,
Pascal.
I've got nothing to hide, and I demand that you justify what right you have to ask.
