I am having problems adding network printers to a new Windows XP Pro machine. On two seperate machines I have tried to add network printers that are connected to other PC's in my office. The printers are on 95 and 98 machines and others on the network (non XP) can print to them with no problems.
On the XP machine (SP1 + current on critical updates), I have tried to add a Brother HL-1440 and a HP 1100 and I end up with the same result. As I go through the process of adding the printer, it tells me that the existing driver will not work so I load the correct drivers for XP and I finish the process. The icon says 0 documents waiting and that it is ready, but when I click on it (either right or left) it crashes. An error message pops up that Windows Explorer needs to report a problem. Needless to say, I cannot print.
If anyone is familiar with this issue, please let me know.
Thanks,
