Windows Explorer continually refreshes

After I got back from vacation and had people using my computer unattended, I noticed that it would constantly refresh the Windows Explorer file information. It does so approximately every 5 seconds or so. It causes problems with some of the Windows Common Dialogs too. If I switch from one folder to another while it's refreshing, it will crash the application. This is really difficult to deal with when I'm trying to save a Word/Excel/Etc. document, and the common dialog crashes the application before I can save the file. If anyone's ever heard of this problem, please let me know what I can do to solve it. Thanks,

I have the very same problem and after many attempts have not been able to solve this. If you do find out how to rectify this annoying bug, would you please let me know.
