I know that even windows machines have their own database full of accounts that are specific to that one computer such as Administrator.

Unix has root admin and so on.

What I would like to do is to have the ability to log on to the domain in Unix. This way the only local accounts can be just the root and such.

How do I do this?

Thanks.
Martin

NIS is your answer, but this is not secure. Do not use this unless you are well protected by at least a firewall.

Two things,

What is NIS and where can I find it.

Yes, our site is secured internally through firewalls, DMZ and a few other gateway devices.

Thanks,
Martin

btw, your handle, "bluedevils" is that by any chance related to the concord blue devils?

sorry, a hockey team I used to play for in Vancouver.

Network information service formerly known as yellow pages. Your version of solaris should already have it. You will want to do manpages and searches on ypbind, nis and yp. This allows an NIS server to centrally store information (like user accounts).
