Does anyone have any experience using Windows DS? It;s really giving me a headache. I would like to use it to deploy XP to new computers when we get them in.

Here is what I have done so far:

Workstation:

1. Installed XP from scratch and applied all security updates.
2. Ran Sysprep - reseal....shutdown PC
3. Installed Windows AIK on a separate XP Computer
4. From AIK, create a Windows PE CD Rom boot disk that had Imagex files on it.
5. Booted the XP workstation thatI want to be by default image from the Windows PE CD Rom.
6. After PE loaded, ran Imagex and created a .wim file
7. Mapped a drive from the workstation to the DS server and copied the .wim file

Server:

1. Installed SP2
2. Installed DHCP
3. Installed Deployment Services
4. After configuring DS, Right clicked "Install Image"
5. Pointed to my .wim image and installed

Now, when I PXE boot from the workstation, it bombs outs. I am able to get an IP address for the DS server but then get a TFTP errors: PXE-T01: File not found
PXE-E3B: TFTP Error - File not Found

I went to the WDS console and then the properties of the Windows Deployment Services boot properties page. Under x86 architecture, it was defaulted to boot\x86\pxeboot.com.

There is no pxeboot.com file(s). I buddy of mine who has DS working had about 7-8 files in that folder.

Any ideas?

Your doing better than me, my sysprep keeps bombing out with an error of not finshed setup. Fixed the registry hive and still the same problems

I found the issue...I needed to add the Vista boot .wim folder as a boot image to the WDS server
