Is there a way to connect a Windows PC client to a Mac network. Currently, all
Macs are accessing the server, along with a Farallon Router for internet access.
We want to connect 1 PC to the network mostly for internet access, but would also like
to be able to get to the file server. Is this possible? We tried, but were unsuccessful.

I have a Mac Network at home and occasionally I bring my
laptop (PC) from the office. My network is configured for DHCP and I can browse the web fine. I'm using IP Netrouter to share a cable modem connection. There are products out there for PC's to see Mac servers, however I use FTP when I need to file share. I have ASIP running on one of my servers. It can be a pain if you are sharing from Mac Client to PC and have to keep dropping files off on a Server share via FTP, however it beats buying an expensive software package.

I have used Dave 2.5 for a Mac on a PC network.

If you are running AppleShare IP 6.x then you can set it up as a Windows file server. There is a selector box in IP Manager and the bottom entry is Windows. Try that.

If you are using OS X then you need to configure SMB. If you work that one out, please let me know.

If you have an NT server, put the Mac files on there and connect everyone to that...

Hello Zel -
We are using AppleShare IP 6.x on the G3 Server (O/S 8.x) .
Someone told me to try MacLan. I downloaded a demo, and after some
tweaking of network settings on the PC and a Mac W.S. (I didn't try the
Server yet) it works fine for accessing files on the Mac.
I would also like to try the IP Manager thing, but is this going to deny
the regular Mac clients access to the server?
I like your idea of a WIN NT Server. We have discussed it, and will probably do that sometime in the future, but not now.

OK, IP 6.x does support PCs logging on. They see the server to map a drive but don't see it in NN so you need to know where you are going!

You don't need Maclan connect. That goes the wrong way for a start.

If you can't find the Windows section in IP Manager, email me off line and I'll help you.

We successfully used IP6 for 2 years before upgrading to OS X. If you can get PCs to talk to that you are a better man than me...
