I have just installed Win2k3 and created a new Active Directory doman, etc... The server boots and runs just fine, but now I'm trying to add the first user...

I add the user, and set the password, then I get this error message: "Windows cannot set the passsword for (Username) because: the password does not meet the password policy requirements. (More)...

I have checked the password requirements, and saw that by default none were configured. I thought that maybe they needed to be configured, so I did, and I am trying passwords that do meet the criteria that I set. Still, it wont do it.

Any ideas? I've found nothing on the Knowledge Base.

Thanks,
Travis

Default password policy setting of W2003 is minumum of 8 characters and compex password.

just encountered this myself, you have to have upper and lowercase, 8 characters and numbers in your passwords

I'm having some password problems to:
I have no problems changing the user passwords on the 2003 server, but when the users try to change it themself, (ctrl+alt+delete)--> change password. They get a error messenge that the password is not complex.
The clients is winXP

When on the Windows 2003 Server Open Active Directory Users and computers or the Domain Security Policy in Administrative Tools and then Right Click Properties on your Domain name (with AD Users & Computers) then select Group policy and highlight the Default Domain Policy and select EDIT. From the Windows Configuration go to Windows Settings - Security Settings - Account Policies - Password Policies and configure Password must meet complexity requirements to disabled. This will work. Good Luck!
