Problem:
One server, 2003 64bit, is unable to access files on XP share with windows error "Windows cannot access specified device, path or file.... error"
Background:
I have 2 servers, Server1 is W2003 32bit Terminal Server running IE6 and Server2 is W2003_64bit running IE7. They both have mapped shared drive 'L:' which is a share on an XP machine. I have the machine name and IP of the XP in the 'local intranet' zone of Internet Settings on both servers. 'Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration' was installed on the 32bit but uninstalled and AFAIK was never installed onto the 64bit machine or at least has been uninstalled.
The 32bit 2003 machine can execute the files after adding machine to local intranet, however, the 64bit machine still can not execute files in the share.
I have tried to see if the XP machine is being recognised as within the local intranet zone by putting the file:///... reference into IE, however, it just automatically opens Explorer.exe and as you know there is not the 'zone' information in the status bar of explorer.exe like there is with iexplore.exe.
Is there any way to have the zone show up, or have files displayed in ie instead of explorer to test this?
Does anyone have an idea how to either fix or work around this problem other than what has already been done?
Thanks for any help.
