Hi all
I thought I posted this question (titled "browsing without TCP/IP") yesterday, but am unable to find it, so here goes again.

I have an office where a sun solaris server is running a "Universe" database. They are also using an Apache web server.

All client PCs (Win95 and win98) are accessing the the database across a WAN (64k diginet lines) via their browser but are NOT using TCP/IP. Im not sure what protocol they are using.

The problem is that I have a WINDOWS based application that requires a login manager application and the database to be stored on the server. (A desktop PC would also suffice.)

The problem is that the company does not want to use TCP/IP protocols, which (as you have no doubt guessed) seriously limits the possibility of using the application.

Any ideas as to how remote users can log in when tcp/ip is not installed ?

Hhmmm...they're using a browser, but they're not using TCP/IP?

I'd suggest NETBIOS/NETBUI (basic Windows protocol), but it's not routable. Maybe IPX/SPX would be an option. It may not meet the need for a logon.

Probably using Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) for present comms.

Cannot think of any other way than tcpip at this moment...perhaps some socket connection? Just don't ask me how that is done, a comms programmer whould know more about this. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
