I'm backing up a WindowsNT system.... It works up to a certain point. It gets up to 50 gig then fails with a error 41. The time it takes to backup that 50 gig is 16 hrs.....

This system was OK prior to a power outage.....

I would think this is a Windows issue.... but since I'm a Unix person I find it hard to prove this.

What log files do I need to review to help troubleshoot this?

I'm verifying if the switch that the system is attached to is at 100FD/non-auto

Verify that the NT machine is hard set to 100/Full Duplex and the switch port is the same. You can also tune the buffers for the clients.

Check the bpbkar log on the client.

Backing up 50GB in 16 hours clearly indicates that there is a network issue. Verify if there are any checksum errors on the Windows client.

I just got done talking to the Windows support... The system will backup in 3.x hrs after a reboot.... Bit slowly degrades to 16 hrs.... Sounds more like a windows issue and not a NBU one!

Thanks for the help.....

I will get the windows support team to look at the bpbkar logs on the client!

Your buffer settings and the NIC setting will cause it to do exactly what you are describing.

Check the FAQ's - Use the one that I wrote for Buffer settings. What NIC are you using - Specifically make, model and speed options?
