Hello all,

I need help figuring out my backup rotations.

I have Windows 2k3 with a built-in single tape drive, using Windows Backup Utility to schedule backups. Here are my jobs:

Monday-Diff
Tuesday-Diff
Wednesday-Diff
Thursday-Diff
Week1-Full
Week2-Full
Week3-Full
(Week4-Full)?
Month1-Full
Month2-Full
Month3-Full

This might look overkill, but let me explain. I want to have Week1-Full be overwritten every month, the 1st Friday of the month. If I make a weekly job "Friday-Full", I can just make sure I put the right tape for the corresponding week. HOWEVER, Windows Backup will logically label Week-2 and Week-3 sticker-labeled tapes as "Week-1". Thus, if you look in "removable storage manager" or backup util, there will be 3 "week-1" tapes. Any way to prevent windows backup util from automatically labeling all tapes that it gets for a "Friday-Full" the "week-1" label?

Let me know if anything is unclear. It should be simple, I know but I wanted to use Windows backup util for its simplicity.

Let me just make it simpler:

I have scheduled a WeeklyFullJob, that I created to write to Tape1 when I created the job. If I put in Tape2 and run WeeklyFullJob, the Tape2 gets labeled as Tape1.

How do I prevent windows backup from relabeling the tapes without having to select each time the tape to use?

Thanks in advance!

I think I found it...the unmanaged parameter(/um)

I'll test this out to see if it works.
