Logon method is set to Microsoft Client for Networking and settings are set to logon to NT domain etc. All other computers set this way boot up to the authentication window and work fine. This computer boots right to the desktop. However, if you then log off user, the authenctication window appears.

So, the problem is that a windowa 98 computer with all normal settings will not boot to an authentication window. I think this may be a registry setting but not sure how or why this would have changed. It was a fresh install of the OS. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

All I can say is re-check the microsoft client and make sure the domain is checked with the correct domain. Check the identification tab and make sure the domain is right in there. Make sure tcpip is installed. Can you see anything on the network? You may want to try to update your network drivers. Uninstall everything in the network properties reboot and then re-install.(client and protocols, etc)
