I have an xp computer running IIS, and I have created a virtual directory. I set the security to windows authentication, but when I try and browse to the site remotely, I get a logon box. I try and login, and it won't work. I get an You are not authorized to view this page message. I have gone in and set the permisions/security on the actual folder to full control on everyone, including the user, but no such luck. Now what's weird, if I try this by browsing to the site, by computer name rather then from the outside address, it authenticates just fine. I am at a loss here. Anyone have any good ideas to help me through this?

Yes with no luck. I am thinking that it is a xp thing. I just went ahead and moved it over to a server 2003 computer and it all works fine. I really wish I knew if thats all it was but, I had to have it up and running so migrating was the only answer.

Did you also uncheck the "anonymous" user checkbox in IIS?

On the client computer try adding he website to trusted/Local Intranet websites in IE.. Also try in other browsers(Firefox).

On IIS, on the properties of the web site under which you created the virtual directory. make sure that HTTP KEEP ALIVES IS ENABLED. If its not enabled, enable it and save settings.

try to login to the site remotely with the outside address
