Windows asks what file to use to open .exe files

Just posting this up for people having this issue and looking for an answer:

When one or all of your programs will not run and try to ask you "What program do you want to use to run this application?" Do this:

go to:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

and download EXE File association fix.
Take it via thumb or CD to the problem PC and extract and run the .REG file,

Worked like a charm for me after a virus destroyed it

Hope this helps someone who was wasting time like I was to fix it
