This may sound strange but I have been asked if there is a way of users being able to access software such as Excel on the unix workstations. I have no idea. I have tried to install Star Office (in case you were wondering why I don't use that as an alternative) but it stole all my screen colours even when it wasn't running! :-( Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Emma

You could set up metaframe , citrix or another server to be an applcation server that you can call form a unix box (some dollars involved).

Thanks for your suggestions. Much appreciated. I have been looking around on the web as well and have found a sun product called SUNPCi II which is a card with Windows on it which you put in your UNIX box which allows you to run Windows Apps across the network, and at the same time allow NT machines to see UNIX File systems etc etc.

Thanks again, lots of options to choose from!

The Sun PCI card is a nice solution if you have the cash, but you are not actually running MS apps on the UNIX box. The card is it's self a cut-down PC, with a little software on it to allow the two desktops to co-exist and a version of NFS to allow the file-sharing.

I've had problems with supporting these cards. They are a nice idea, but only really make sense in a really die-hard Sun-centric environment with a large support budget.

It would be cheaper to do this the other way around. Have a PC running your windows apps + an X-windows prog like Exceed to see your remote UNIX desktop.
