Hi, I am having a bit of a nightmare... Running Win XP SP2 and I have NAV2004. I am on a network of 5 users with a Win 2003 Server. They can all access the internet, email etc without a problem. However, I have a problem, my PC doesn't seem to want to resolve IP addresses...

I can access the internet without a problem using Opera (which is how I am writing this), I can listen to the radio using Real Player, but when i ping in a Command Prompt, it returns Pinging 1.0.0.0 , this happens with 95% of the sites I ping, yet, for example will resolve, and it will let me browse a select few websites (or if it won't it says "Connecting to 1.0.0.0"). MSN Messenger connected yesterday morning, but not this morning! It would send e-mail using the mailserver name, but not receive, so, now i have put in the IP address in the POP3 account address. I hope this all makes sense, and you guys can help, because this is really doing my head in!!

I have done a Virus Scan, used AdAware, and SpySweeper, CWShredder, and my HijackThis report shows nothing out of the ordinary. I have also looked at my hosts file, which was normal.

Any advice, even that it HAS to be a re-install will be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Steve

You can try reinstalling the tcp/ip stack with the netshell utility:

start->run

type:

netsh ip reset log.txt

it only takes a second, and it will create a logfile (into your documents and settings usually) of registry corrections made during the repair. It also won't cause any harm if the tcp/ip stack is not the problem.

Thanks,

Unfortunately that hasn't worked!

Its getting mighty frustrating now!

This sounds like a DNS issue, just because you have some kind of limited web access.

Was there a point when this machine worked perfectly? Did you have a spyware issue that caused this to happen that you know of?

Yeh, it was working fine last week, there has been no spyware problems at all that i can remember of in the last month or two, let alone the last week or so
