I have windows on my PC and want to know if I can have linux running for my programing. If not is there a way to play windows games on a linux OS without partitioning and extensive downloads. ::)

Thanx in advance.

if you mean Linux running at the same time with windows, no, not unless you wana get something like VMware (vmware.com) which requires WinNT or Linux, with heavy reasources.

but you can just partition Linux and Windows, and dualboot that way, and boot into Windows whenever you wana play games.

I've heard good things about Win4Lin, at It runs a virtual Windows session inside Linux and apparently performs quite well.

However, if you want maximum performance for games, you should just get another hard drive or repartition to have a Windows boot alongside your Linux boot.

I was going to mention that, Win4Lin will work great for standard windows applications, however I do not belive it'll work good for Games, since DirectX and OpenGL are a whole different set of API, Win4Lin I think only works with the core APIs of Windows (user32, kernel, etc) and whatever immediate dll the program links to.
