hi. everytime i boot up my pc windows dsplays the logon prompt. no big problem but it is irritating. i have checked the mkb and done everything it says to do including trying to delete the registry entry relating to passwords but it doesn't exsist. anyone got any ideas? thanks.

go to Control Panel. Double Click On Network
Change the logon type to Windows Logon.
Click OK. Dont Restart the machine
Double Click on passwords. Cant remember which tab it is on but there is an option which says 'All Users Use The Same Desktop and Start Menu', Select that option. Click OK then Restart your computer

----- IF We're Talking About A Windows Password -----
Not sure what you've tried, but do the following:
1) Do a search for *.pwl files and delete all results
2) Go to Start->Run, type sysedit, and hit OK. In the System.ini window, look for the section [password lists] and remove all the lines below that header in that section.
3) Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel. Double-click Passwords and go to the tab "User Profiles". Make sure "All users share the same preferences..." is selected.
4) Reboot and if prompted for a password, leave it blank and hit OK. This should be the last time you're asked for a Windows password.

In Windows ME, instead of using sysedit, browse to the system.ini file in C:\windows and open it in notepad. Then do the step mentioned above to remove lines under [password lists].
See if you can obtain a Win95 or 98 boot disk. Insert it into the floppy drive and reboot the machine. This will allow the machine to boot to a DOS prompt where you can manually go to the C:\Windows directory and delete the "default.pwl" file.
Commands you would type at the A:> prompt would include:
- C: and hit enter
- cd windows and hit enter
- del default.pwl and hit enter
Then, take the boot disk out of the floppy drive and hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot into Windows ME.
