Hello,
we have a strange thing with the activation of a server.

when logging on we get a screen asking for activation of windows. when we click on yes, after 10 seconds there is a logoff without seeing an activation screen. We are not able to logon anymore.

The funny thing is that the server already was working for 8 months.

I'm able to start up in safe mode. ALreaday tried to change activation key in wpa events (oobe). But it doesn't allow it in safe mode...

anyone an idea how we can fix this?

it's a virtual machine, windows 2003 server Enterprise edition.

Thanx in advance

SDPT,

Thank you very much for your answer but I already tried that
and no succes.

quote " when logging on we get a screen asking for activation of windows. when we click on yes, after 10 seconds there is a logoff without seeing an activation screen. We are not able to logon anymore.

Maybe it was not clear so I made some print screens, which is in most times much clearer :)

see print screen

the first is when I try to logon in normal mode, I get the choice yes, no or cancel, whatever I click, I will be logged off.

Then the second part is in safe mode. You cannot activate windows from safe mode..

Does anyone know another trick or two :)))) It would be much appriciated.

Thank you very much

I already know that procedure and yes I already tried that.(as mentioned in my previous posts.)

remark: I'm NOT able to logon in NORMAL MODE. So i'm forced to logon in SAFE MODE. I'm even not able to logon LOCALLY in NORMAL MODE.(in the logon listbox is only the domain available, logon to this computer is not in the list)

I Did the procedure below in SAFE MODE, because this is the only way that I can LOGON to the machine.

Log in as the local Administrator
Click Start > Run > and type in Regedit
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\wpaevents

In the right pane, right-click OOBETimer, and then click Modify
Change at least one digit of this value to deactivate Windows
Click OK and close regedit
Click Start > Run and type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"
Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and then click Next
Click Change Product Key (at the bottom)
Enter your valid Corporate Product Key
Press Update and close the window.
If you are returned to the previous window, click Remind me later
Restart your computer

When I do this in SAFE MODE , I get the message that it is not possible in SAFE MODE.

So now I was wondering if there is another workaround.

Thank you

I did the modify of the OOBETimer in the registry in safe mode and restarted the machine in normal mode.

I get the same screen, windows product activation....
which will result in logging off...

you mentioned that this is a VM, which one?

Microsoft or VMWare??
