I am using an Omnibook XE2.
Windows 98SE.
Ran Microsoft Update.
Downloaded two ESS sound/modem drivers.
Windows 98SE, on boot-up when first starting Windows, claims to see a new modem device. It can't find driver. I can't stop this "install screen" from coming up. Any advice on how to stop this annoyance?
My "System" tab under control panel says that the computer already has a "modem enumerator" functioning properly. I haven't used the modem in some time, but it used to work.
Any advice on how to deal with this annoying situation? I tried searching for new plug n play devices, but Windows 98SE found none. It seems to only see this phantom modem on boot-up, possibly triggered by the Windows Update access and download of drivers.
Any recommendations to deal with this? I hadn't used this machine in years, and have been trying to make it run as a wireless modem access tool if I am on the road.
Thank you.
