In my PC I have dual boot - 98SE and XP Pro SP3.
For Network connection on XP I have Ethernet DSL-360R Broadband and for 98SE I have internal Modem Intel 56K.Please let me know if it is possible to use existing ADSL also with 98SE, previously removing Installed Modem, or it is impossible.
I am interested to remove Modem from my machine
and create a Broadband connection for Windows 98Se , using existing stuff, if possible.

@Lemon13,

Remove the modem and locate the internet without it.

Should find it without problem.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

My NIC is D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (rev.C)
and I have DSL-360R.
Do I need drivers to istall ADSL connection ( for Windows 98SE), and I read there is a patch for 98SE, created from MS, for some resons.
Where I can find tutorial how to do it for Desktop computers, please.

Probably nothing needed. Bring up IE. Tools. Options. Connections. Setup.
There are patches. You probably don't need them. Most people don't.

If you have used your Win98 LAN card (DFE-530) to connect to another device it will have an IP address already assigned. It is likely that Win98 cannot associate that IP Address with the ASDL and you may have to hard wire the address.

Start-up in Win98 and do the following.

First find the LAN card IP Address:-
Goto START > Choose Run dialog > enter COMMAND[ok]
In the DOS Box type IPCONFIG
Write down the IP address of you DFE-530 lan card.
Type EXIT to get back to Windows.

Goto START > Settings > Control Panel > Network
Look for the DFE-530 Ethernet ADAPTER used for LAN (not Dialup) and highlight.
Click PROPERTIES tab. Click BINDINGS tab and make sure that TCP/IP is indicated and check box is ticked. Click ADVANCED
and click on NETWORK ADDRESS. Click the Radio Button alongside the Value dialog; the value changes to 000000000000. Overwrite this with the IP address you noted from the configuration check but leave out the period separator. Click OK twice to return to the CONTROL PANEL.

Double Click on INTERNET OPTIONS and click on CONNECTIONS.
Click radio button for NEVER DIAL A CONNECTION.
Go to LAN Settings and clear all checked boxes.
Click OK twice.
Close the Control Panel Window.

Restart the system on Win98
Win98 will pick up the LAN card an re-register the IP from the ASDL. If not you may have to change the LAN setting in INTERNET OPTIONS to auto.

If you run IPCONFIG again you will find that the LAN card has a new IP adress and a subnet mask.

Hope this works for you - but it is Win98 !!!

Ed.
