i am getting a VMM32.VMM is required to run windows message at start up and have been trying to reinstall windows for the last few weeks. i managed to free up enough space to do the installation but i now get "setup detection notice" message SU0409 caused by built in virus detection or software. i don't know if there is a built in virus detection program but i did have norton antivirus which i tried to delete from DOS.

the message said that if the program is built in to run the configuration program that came with the computer. what is this? should it be something built in to or a program from a disk?

if the problem was software it said to remove the lines that start the program in autoexec.bat or config.sys. the software should be deleted but how can i change the lines if i can't access notepad or windows at all?

i hope this makes sense.

thanks in advance
chris.

On bootup, go into BIOS setup, and disable virus checking in there.
This is probably what the SUWIN error is referring to. Cheers,
Jim

I think Comtech hit the nail on the head. Its probebly the BIOS setup anti-virus. James Collins
