Hi

After an unsuccessful attemp to install XP over 98 SE I am left with SVCHOST C:\Windows\mwinXP.txt not found on my desk
top. Any help will be appreciated in getting rid of this or
any other element of XP?

Would suggest the emergency foot floppy and a reformat of the drive and reinstall of 98.
An alternate would be deltree of the windows directory and the lest invasive would be the use of the floppy to get to the file for deletion.
A clean reinstall generally seems to be the best way to clean up stuff like this.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

IF you want - find all instances of svchost in the REG and delete them - it's not a 98 process
