I have a windows 98 PC it will run for several days ant then the monitor will lose connection I rebooted and this did not help I tried another video card with the same result I connected another monitor and everythig seem to run ok so I tried the monitor on another machine and it worked so I put it back on the original machine and it work for a week and then started the same thing again does it sound like I need a new monitor

Sounds like you are losing video hardware in the monitor. So yes, it is probable that you will need a new monitor.
Depending on size, you might want to look into getting a used CRT as they are coming into the market at a reasonable price. Like $25 for 17".

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

Can it be that you are driving the monitor at a refresh rate that is too border line for it?
