I have a rather bizzare problem with explorer. I purchased a new hard drive and decided to "start over" with my system. I installed a fresh copy of Win98SE which went without incident. Now though, when I run explorer, the left-hand pane constantly refreshes (about every 3-4 seconds) and the mouse cursor changes to the hour-glass. After exiting out of explorer, I get the cursor change (again every 3-4 seconds) in just about EVERY program! If I switch back to my old hard (with the same settings, drivers, etc.) the problem goes away.

My system consists of:
AMD Athlon 750 on Asus K7V-T MB with 256Megs of PC-100 RAM
Diamond Viper V770 Ultra video card
Sound Blaster SB512 PCI sound card
Encore ENL832-TX NIC
MS optical wheel mouse

Could this be some sort of network card configuration problem? A mouse problem? The planets out of alignment? PLEASE HELP!

Ken -

The planets out of alignment would be a good place to start. You may also want to check the 'View --> Folder Options. You'll notice you have more options with Win98se. Double check your Active Desktop Settings, Custom settings, etc.... I believe there is also a 'Web Page' view setting.

I don't think it's hardware related. Just something with those "Great" Microsoft default settings.

Good Luck ~

Thanks for the suggestion, but that wasn't the problem. Now, I'm having difficulty bringing the computer back up from stand-by. It just hangs. I'm stumped!
