Windows 98 Errors After Software Download

After downloading software updates from any vendor including Microsoft, pc will not restart without deleting 'wininit.ini' file.

Must press 'F8' then select option for DOS command line when system is rebooting. If unable to get to DOS command line option, system continues to reboot.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have my PC running Win98SE and I don't have that file. I have wininit.exe.

Have you run, SFC, up-to-date AV check, Sypybot and Ad-Aware?
