Folks,

We have several different Windows clients in our factory and install Pervasive client on them all to access data on a remote server. However, Pervasive always has problems on Windows 98. It works fine on 95, NT, 2000 and XP. During the installation, one of the tests always fails. I'm pretty sure it's the transactional test but I wouldn't swear to it.

Is this a known problem or can anyone give me a solution?

I've seen (and run) Pervasive on Win98 clients for many years. I have a few questions:
1. What version of Pervasive?
2. What's the exact message of the failure?
3. Does your application work after installing Pervasive? If not, what do you do to make it work?

1. Pervasive.Sql 2000i
2. There is no failure message but during the transactional tests, only the first action passes. Everything else fails. It gives an error code 94.
3. The application doesn't work after installing Pervasive. We try not to use Win98 PC's where this application in critical.

1. Is the 2000i SP3 or SP4?
2. A status 94 is a permission error. Is the user logged in to the Win98 machine logged in the same on other machines? If it's a different user, what happens if you use a "working" user?
3. Does the application get a status 94 or something else?

1. 200i SP3
2. I am using the same user account that I always use to set up client PC's - the network administrator account.
3. The application in question is MAX - an ERP system. It doesn't give a status 94 error.

During the Pervasive install, it does two tests - transactional and relational. The transactional always fails but the relational always passes.

I've seen that problem before - it normally fails because it doesn' have permission to create the test database - this is typically under the PVSW folder on the server that you are installing the client from. I normally ignore the error message, because I know the cause - it's NEVER stopped the client from installing correctly.

The client will always install - but the application that I run doesn't work properly.
