I have a Compaq laptop running win 98. When ever this machine is turned on it boots to the Windows 98 startup selection menu. The one where it has the options of Normal,Safe mode etc. How can i get this to stop. If i start with Safe mode and shutdown everthing is fine. But when i restart it goes back to that menu.

Your solution is in msconfig. Run it from the startup menu, and choose normal startup on the general tab. I've seen this not work, mostly in ME...make sure you click on apply, and then ok...

If that doesn't work, set Explorer to "view all files" and uncheck "hide files of known..."
Then edit MSDOS.SYS in notepad.
Look for the line that says "BOOTGUI=x" and change the number to 1. If it's already a 1, leave it.
Look for the line that says "BOOTMENU=x" and change the number to 0.
Save and exit, restart. Cheers,
Jim
