Windows 95B will not boot, IOS.vxd, and INFMSGR.vxd Errors???

Windows 95 Version B, will not boot in NORMAL mode. The system runs through few check and stops on System INI or Windows Registry refers to the following file but can't be found.. the two files are IOS.vxd and INFMSGR(sp??).vxd. I tried reloading windows over top of itself to correct the problem and that did not work. Also deleted the two files and copied them from an identical sys and that did not work. Ran full scandisk with surface scan and all is okay. The Origin of the files should be c:\windows\system\vmm32. I went there and deleted them as well and tried reloading windows a third time over top of itself and that did not work either. Please give me some clues guys as to the FASTEST way to correct. Re-Formatting is not a good option for this system as the person does not have all the necessary drivers for video, sound, modem, etc.

You can extract the files in DOS from the CD.
You could possibly do it in safe mode as well.
The DOS commands are as follows (providing your CD-ROM is D: and you have access to it through DOS).
extract /y /a /l c:\windows\system d:\win95\win95_03.cab\IOS.vxd
Use the exact same syntax for the other file, except change it to win05_04.cab\ifsmgr.vxd.
In safe mode, the two files you need are in win95_03.cab for IOS.VXD and in win95_04.cab for IFSMGR.VXD and they can be extracted using (almost) any unzipping type program like winzip or pkunzip. Cheers,
