I have a problem starting Windows 95 properly. I can make it start in "Safe Mode" or when I choose N at the "Load all windows drivers" step in the step-by-step startup procedure. Otherwise, the computer simply shuts itself down (power off) immediately. And after it shuts down, I cannot power it on again for a while. I have to wait for a few minutes before I can push the power button to start it and try again. Somebody told me it is a problem with the hardware, the power supply. Can somebody help me with this? I want to know if this is possibly a hardware problem. If it is, how come I can always start it up in the safe mode?

Many thx!

When you do start it in safe mode, look in Start->Programs->Start Up->

and see what's loading. You could be running a shut down script at start up. Also, open your c:\windows\win.ini and look at the 2 lines that say
run=
and
load=

These do the same thing as your start up group, and if you're loading a shutdown script, it'll do that.

Also, a good thing to do is take the cover off of your case and re-plug-in all of your components. AGP cards are bad about creeping out of their slots, causing shorts and stuff. Re-seat the memory, processor, and all components and power plugs and see if this helps. Also, while the cover is off make sure all of hte fans are spinning, as heat can cause these types of problems, but if you can start insafe mode it's probably not a heat issue.

Blow the dust out while you're at it, as some of this can be conductive. If you don't know how to take the cover off and fiddle around safely (Watch out for static), take it someplace.

MWB.
As always, I hope that helped!

go in in safe mode then go into device mangler ( START,SETTINGS,CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM, DEVICE MANGLER) once in DM remove everything and reboot.
