Has anyone had the problem of Win 95 locking up when launching GW, creating a new e-mail, or openeing a received e-mail, or when notifier starts? We are running GW 5.5.3 clients. The server is NW4.11 sp8a. This is happening on multiple machines. There seems to be network slowdowns associated with this problem as well. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Dom

I've had problems with both 95 (a/b/c) and 98 (fe/se). I've found with GW Notify, it will collide with multiple programs. When looking into this problem, look at your constants across the network. Are each of these users running antivirus software? Do each of these users have the MS Office ShortCut Bar?

Removing some of the above listed features will be a good place to start your trouble-shooting.

Also, right click the Notify icon in systray --> goto Notification List. If there are tons of items select clear all. Next, go into Options. Under alarms sometimes the wav file people have selected becomes corrupt. Change or disable it.

Another point I've heard, but can't not confirm, is to have your 'check mail' set to an even number of minutes. Again, I personally haven't seen any improvement when problems do exist and I changed the time.

Good luck ~

One suggestion is to open the amount of memory buffers in windows, It sounds like either a memory problem or memory leak. Change the local performance of the machine from desktop pc to network server, take some stuff our of the start up ie. OSB bar and Notify, check the antivirus software starting up, and look at the mail boxes of those users if they have an archive or not move all unused email etc to the archive and restart.

I've optimized all of the workstations. Most are running antivirus and OSB. Unfortunately, the concensus is that the OSB will not be removed, because everyone has to have it to work. I know, but no use fighting management, it's a waste of time. I have disabled the tool bar on my workstation, but it still locks up. I haven't tried having users archive their emails. I'll explore this possibility. I know that the GW system has been in operation for over a year, so we're looking at an e-mail base of 85 users and a years worth of mail, all on the server. That could definitely be a factor.
Thanks for the tips,
Dom
