Windows 95 Installation via VirtualBox

Windows 95 will run on Virualbox 4.3.12-93733
Disable VT (Virtual Technology) in your BIOS
In Settings, use all of the defaults, except:
Set Boot order to
1.) CD ROM
2.) Hard Disk

R:\ is the CD Drive, until setup is done.

• Boot Windows 95 CD or ISO

• A:/>fdisk (Create a Primary Partition on C:\)
• Press "Y" to enable FAT32.
• Select Choice 1 (Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive)
• Select Choice 1 (Create Primary DOS Partition)
• Answer (Y)es (make partition active)
• Restart Windows (Insert Ctrl-Alt-Del) or Power Off the Machine
• Start the machine
• A:\>format c: (Format the Parition)
• Answer (Y)es proceed with format
• hit 'enter' for no volume label
• A:\>xcopy R:\Win95 C:\Win95 (XCopy the Win95 Folder From CD to Hardrive)
• Answer (D)irectory name is specified
• C: (point to the C: Drive)
cd win95 (setup is in this folder)
• C:\win95\>setup (begin the Windows 95 setup routine)
• When Setup starts follow on screen instruction. After a while,
• Enter Product Key from earlier that you generated:
10000-OEM-0000007-11111 (generic)
32397-OEM-0027426-81349 (generated)
• Enter a user name for the computer
• Check to install 'Network Adapter' and 'Sound, Midi, or Video Capture Card'
• Answer (N)o to startup disk
• When the 'finishing setup' message appears, power off the machine.

Set Boot priority to 1.) Hard Disk 2.) CD ROM
• Start the machine
• Enter a computer name (like USER-PC)
• Enter a workgroup name (like WORKGROUP)
• After the restart Windows will install drivers from C:\WIN95 (where you copied them)
• enter time zone
• restart machine (ctrl-alt-del) if necessary to get rid of IOS error
• Don't enter a network password, hit CANCEL
• Windows will install IE4 on it's own
after prompting that it need more info (this takes a while)

*** TCP/IP Configuration for Windows 95 ***

• Right-click on the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop and select Properties.
• Click 'Add' button from the Configuration tab.
• Select Protocol in the Select Network Component Type dialog.
• Click 'Add'
• Select Microsoft from the list of Network Protocol Manufacturers in the left column, and
• Select TCP/IP from the list of Network Protocols in the right column of the Select Network Protocol dialog
• Click 'OK'
• Windows will install tcp/ip from c:\win95 and restart
• Right Click 'Network Neighborhood' on the desktop
• Click 'Properties'
• Click 'OK' to 'Obtain an IP address automatically
• Find 'ie4setup' in C:\Win95 and double click to install it (if not already installed)
• Click on 'Internet Explorer'
• Click 'I already have an Internet Connection and I do not want
to change it'
• On 'Win95_osr25' disc D: find ie55sp2.exe. Copy it to the desktop and
double click it to 'inflate' it.
• Find 'IE 5.5 SP2 Full' folder on the desktop.
In that folder, double click 'ie5setup.exe' to install IE5.50
Windows will restart.
