I'm needing an easy was of repairing restoring registry and / or system files on Windows 95 / 98 systems. It's mainly 95 that gives me problems because 98 has the SFC program installed. Right now my big issue is when a customer brings their 95 unit in with problems, I'm not able to reinstall Windows from any of the OEM CD Versions that I have. Is there a Windows product that will allow us to reinstall the system files. Without renaming the windows directory. Or is there any other way of doing it?

Maybe you will have to remove the original ProductKey
and ProductId from the registry before the OEM-CD will
be accepted.

You can edit the registry to fix that. Are you doing a full reload or an overlay? I normally do overlays unless I know it won't work. That's just running set-up from inside windows. Unless you are running into the problem that during the installation it wants the code. If it's asking when you get to windows you can bypass the user setup by hitting control-shirt-F3. Then you could edit the registry.

Edit the file "user.dat" in DOS, get the product key, write it down.
Rename win.com to win.bak
Run setup.
If you're working in a shop, repairing customers computers, and you don't know how to do a reinstall of windows, I'd like to know how you got your job? X-) Cheers,

I own the repair shop. Does your methed overlay the operating system, keeping the users settings?
