PC purchased dec2010 Windows 7 installed OEM version, sorry but I cannot get to pc details but I installed sp1 ( excluding explorer 9 and the pc slowed right down. To load a new tab in ie8 took 3.5 minutes, trfs rate at the time was down to 105bytes, This was all I could read as pc was so slow. Decided to do a system restore and 90minutes later it is still at the stage of "Do not turn off your pc. System restore is initializing" realize these are not the exact words. Is there anyone who has come across this issue please. I will be installing Coogle chrome and forgetting about explore from now on.
Also I did a virus check as it happens just before installing this update and nothing was found so I guess it rules out that possibility. Just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you

2 hours to do a restore system details as follows
Win7 Home premium, Rating 5.9Windows Experience index ( ?)
Processor: AMD 11x4 995 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 4GB
System type 64bit

Is there a question? Yes, sp1 has been known to cause some issues during install. No I have not had the pleasure of seeing it. Windows Experience index, is only an indicator as to how well your pc will play a games for windows library game, but since it will top off at 5.7-5.9 for a pc with a standard hard drive, ide or sata, it is pretty much a failure, because overall rating is set to the lowest score of the individual tests. Windows 7 system restore can take a long time, it is not an image restore like ghost or true image which would be much faster. It will also be dependent on how much space is available on the hard drive and swap space assigned to it.

best approach in doing a SP1 update, is to make sure that ALL drivers are up to date...

also make SURE that no AntiViral software is running, this includes certain third party firewalls with integrated system protection...

Some antivirus software might prevent SP1 from installing, or might slow down the installation. You can try temporarily disabling your antivirus software. If you do so, be sure that you're aware of the risks involved, and be sure to re-enable it after the service pack is installed.

I guess we have to wait to see the outcome of your System Restore, if it ever finishes. Then wait for the report on how the machine performs, and whether System Restore even completed successfully.

You can try testing your machine from within Safe Mode with Networking, and if that seems OK, try the elimination process via a clean boot. We don't get may posts about SP1 causing problems.

You mention IE and 64-bit. Even though you are a 64-bit machine the Default IE 8/9 should be the 32-bit version. That is the version that runs by default on 64-bit machines. If you use that version then the problems might vanish. Most Browser Add-ons are not suitable for 64-bit Browsers.

Q&A: 64-Bit Internet Explorer

Thank you all very much.Yes I should have checked re anti virus running my error. Restore took 2.5 hours and now PC is running sweet again.
I will try the 32bit version, for IE8/9 and I also forgot the spybot was running. Well thank you all again. Most helpful
