Ok not really news but...

Installed Win7 RC on my Samsung NC10 and it runs very well even with AV installed and i haven't added any extra RAM yet. It's faster than XP was in general running, it does take slightly longer to boot but with hybrid sleep that shouldn't be a problem it takes three seconds to come back from sleep .

So far I'm very impressed the UAC is way less intrusive i've hardly noticed it and the frequent odd freezes in explorer that I noticed in Vista have gone as well. Windows 7 seems to be a big step in the right direction for netbooks, shame about the three program limt that will be imposed on the netbook edition.

porkchopexpress,

You still have the standard 1 Gig in it?? I was thinking of putting Win 7 on my NC10 soon, what AV do you have running on it?

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

I've just put 2Gb RAM in and to be honest I haven't noticed any difference and I was running it for two weeks with 1Gb. I could listen to music have loads of browser windows open and be using office with not a hint of it slowing down, I can also stream video off i-Player quite happily. I didn't need to download any extra drivers Win7 found them all straight away, it did pick up an updated driver from windows update but no issues there. The only thing I downloaded was the Easy Display Manager from Samsung but the version for the NC10 is XP only so I downloaded the Vista version for another model and it works fine, I didn't bother with the battery manager as Win7 seems to manage everything fine i'm still getting 6 hours normal use out of it. With CPU-Z you can see it switching between 800MHz and 1.6GHz frequently so it's managing all of the power features effectively.

I'd recommend using the Samsung recovery tool to image the drive then go for it, i'm very impressed so far it's easily as smooth as XP and way better than Vista.

I'm using Avira antivirus free which seems pretty light compared to AVG.

Grant.

Nice stuff folks, thanks.

Looks like I might have the weather do this at the weekend as well, blustery showers prediction just says stay in and install Win 7 to me :)
