Ok, so by default when I connect my laptop the icon shows local and Internet access ..
Now when I connect my laptop it shows only Internet access and no local access...
How can i fix this ??

Is this a question about why you don't see the word "Local" only, or are you having connection problems with other LAN machines?

Are you on a LAN, and if so, what operating systems are involved? What hardware is between you and any other machines or what type of connection is it?

Is any firewalling blocking access to LAN?

Are all machines on the same subnet with their IP addresses? What does running IPconfig /all tell you on all machines?

Can machines Ping each other?

Have you checked from "Safe Mode with Networking"?

If all machines are Vista or Windows 7, have you tried the "Troubleshoot problems" in the Network Sharing Center?

If things worked a couple of days ago then System Restore may be an option?

This only one machine as per now, I did troubleshoot the problem, so far I know that when mapping the network and clicking on LAN it shows " missing adapter " , could it be eventually an etnernet cable not working properly ???

Hi,
If there are no other machines on the Network, what are you trying to map?

Can you access the router?

yes I can access the router, it is not a major problem but it can be annoying .. By default the machine should give you the little icon on the bar at the bottom (means the internet access and the local, it's that little computer image with the earthimage..) as for now only the internet icon shows up..

Is the icon that you are missing one that represents your Router?

Are you hiding icons in the settings for the Notification Area? Right-click on the the Start Menu/ Properties/ Taskbar/ Notification Area/ Customize

Icons are not hided, the router doesnt show on the desktop but I know it's connected(I see it on the network sharing site). Again it is not a major problem but when I had Vista it would give me both icons LAN and Internet.

If you go to the Network Sharing Center and click on "Change Adapter Settings", in the resulting page, how many Network Adapters are listed in there?

CCX008,

If you have nothing locally to connect to, what are you looking for? You didn't answer the question earlier:

Are you trying to connect to a networked printer, a networked storage device, another computer you forgot to mention, what? If nothing, then the LAN/local network doesn't matter so long as you can access the router and web. Perhaps it's just something Win7 now does when only one local machine is involved - no need to waste resources keeping up with null values as just place holders.

Thanks for the help, looks like W7 probably does not show the same like Vista..I can access the router and web..However for some reason I get some webloading problems , thats why I thought the LAN is the problem..
But it could be the router...

Again thank you for all the replies !!

Vista showed local and Internet windows 7 shows only Internet access this is normal behaviour on windows 7.
When you say "i get some webloading problems" what kind of problems?

weblaoding, means when clicking on a link , sometimes I get a "Windows explorer can't open the site" but clicking twice or three times will work..Not a major problem but sometime can get annoying ..

Was that Windows Explorer, or Internet Explorer? What browser are you using? Is it IE 8, or the Beta IE 9?

Have you tried cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, and Browsing History?

sorry , IE 8 ..yes i always use to clean temp and history..

Have you tried using IE8 without addons? if so does the issue still persist?

Thanks so much for hanging out so long with me... It's absolutely a problem with IE8 ...
Again thanks for al the links , let me send my donations !!
