still not convinced to jump to W10, but I have problems getting updates for W7 ?? Any different site I have to get the updates ?? the system looks for it but it wont get it..

I just hate to be forced and raped to update to somethin I don't want ..

This reg file will stop GWX from running at PC startup. No more nagging.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx]
"DisableGwx"=dword:00000001

Thanks so much for the help, so if I download that file or delete that reg file will I be able to download the sec updates on W7 ?? because as of now it will serach for updates but wont find anything ??? sorry I am not an expert ..

goombawaho,

[tab]I have another question. Will that Reg entry also stop CompatTelRunner from running? I have one computer where CompatTelRunner and GWXConfigManager start up in the morning and are killing the performance until they finish (15-20 minutes). This particular PC will never be upgraded to Win10 since it is running some incompatible shop floor programs.

You copy and paste that data (exactly as it is) into a notepad document. Save it. Rename it something.reg.
Right click - MERGE. Agree to any security naggings/warnings
2ffat - I can't answer that question!!!

CCX008 - You will still get all other Windows 7 updates! It just won't run the "upgrade to windows 10 thingy" in the taskbar.

Thanks so much for all the valuable links , however just my last "Q" : if a company knows that their product is still full of bugs, why would they release it and most of all why would they force the consumer to update ?? It just doesn't make sense to me..

Microsoft is often abbreviated M$, for Make $. MS does not stand for Make Sense.
