Laptop loaded with Windows 7 Professional on a domain, user got Desktop setup like they want it to look. Took laptop home, logged in to local profile, now when they bring it back into the office to log into the domain, it will not open the user's domain profile. It will only show the icons from the public\desktop. Any ideas?

I Have checked the registry...HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders and the desktop is pointing to %userprofile%\desktop. That makes me think that it should be opening the user's desktop.

In the Start menu type %userprofile%\desktop and hit enter. Do you see the expected path in the window that opens? When you click in that box, the path should show "C:\Users\username\Desktop".

is he logging on LOCALLY or in the DOMAIN, while at work?

have the user log on using DOMAIN-NAME\USER-NAME while at work, and PC-NAME\USER-NAME at home...

sometimes you can not tell easily, if it is set to log on locally or to the domain...
