I still have a few 3.1 workstations on my network. We are going to be a Netware 6x network soon. Will DOS 6.22 and
Windows 3x work on a Novell 6 network?
Yea it will work, but there is a catch .... the client you need to do it with if you want IP connections won't be supported by Novell; so you'll end up beating your head on a wall when a problem comes up. The VLM client will also work in the IPX world, but again, not supported by Novell.
To do it over IP you will need the NetWare client 2.71 (I think that was the last version), which I am not sure if you can still get (I was only able to find updates).
I would just scrap the client my self. Since you are still using Win3.1 (which M$ doesn't even support anymore), use one of the new features in NW6 called Native File Access. Basicly the NetWare server pretends it is a Windows NT server and users use it like an NT server. You pretty much only loose the login script functionality for mapping drives and such. If you using Win3.1, good luck. If your using Win3.11 for Workgroups then just build a workgroup, may look peer-to-peer, but the Windows box storing the files will actually be NetWare with all the bells and whistles. Also remember, a lot of functionality is in the web services (WebAccess, iManage, iPrint).... Brent Schmidt CNE, Network +

Holy Cow, someone still using 3.1, hmm, makes you wonder how many companies out there still have these old OS's running... Mark C. Greenwood, CNE
