Hello,

I've installed W2K SP4 on a production Domain controller in our business. Although we didn't run into glaring issues afterward, we did receive a few Event ID's immediately after applying SP4. 7022 and 7031. The issue was that after SP4 was installed, our Tivoli backup scheduler service failed on startup. I could recreate the error every time after reboot, and COULD start the service manually. It just would NOT start automatically after SP4. Which file(s) are replaced that affect the Service Control Manager in SP4? Rolling back off of SP4 rectified the issue, but I've got a fleet of servers I want to button up- but need to answer to management about this snag first. Thanks!

Probably a whole TON of files affect the SCM. Have you contacted your friends at Tivoli to see if they know anything about it?

Not yet, although I'm looking into this now. The nature of the errors indicate Tivoli is merely affected by the SCM "change". It could be any service, but Tivoli was "the one" that was hammered for us. Thanks for the reply.

HI.

It could be a timing or dependency issue.

If you have a test machine, try to configure the Tivoli service as dependant on another one for example NETLOGON or SERVER service. This is done by direct editing of the Registry.
You can use another service with dependencies as a reference, for example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser
DependOnService = ....

But of course, this is for the test only, and a real solution shoule better come from the software company support.
