Hi All,

I did have a working Windows 2008 Web Servers Network Load Balancing Cluster Web farm but now I am having a few problems.

This is my setup:

I have 2 nodes in my cluster:

Node 1
IP: x.x.x.1
Cluster IP: x.x.x.10

Node 2
IP: x.x.x.2
Cluster IP: x.x.x.10

There are two NICs in my two identical servers, one nic is used for private network on a 192. range and the other is using a fixed Public IP.

I created a new cluster using NLB Manager I select my public nic card and set it to as Multicast on Node1. Then NLB Manager creates the first node in the cluster without any errors. Then I add my second Node2 into the cluster using Multicast again which is created without any errors on Node1.

I can ping x.x.x.2 from node1 and ping x.x.x.10 from node1 and can also ping it from any other server on the same subnet. I can do the same on node2 I can ping x.x.x.1 and ping x.x.x.10.

When I ping x.x.x.1 or x.x.x.2 from the external network (WAN) this works fine, but if I ping my cluster IP x.x.x.10 it fails. I have tried everything I can think of and need some help. I deleted the cluster and recreated it but keep on getting timeouts. This has been working fines for months in the past so I am not sure what the issue is.

If I go into NLB manager on node 2 I also get the error "Host unreachable. Error connecting to "Server1"". I have made sure that icmp is enabled on both servers and that the firewall is disabled but still get this error?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Are you using switches? If so, what model and configuration.

The "nic" is it part of a team? You can't use NLB on virtual nics (team adapters/etc).

I have managed to fix this, it was a issue with the muliticast mac address on the router.

Thanks anyway.
