Taking a stab at installing Hyper-V for first time.

Are there 2 or more ways of installing this or is it essentially this process:

1) install Windows 2k8 server core
2) tick the role for Hyper-V

for now I would like to create only 2 vm's and it may only expand to only 3 vm's over all for the next few months until we purchase a SAN.. but just so you know I don't plan to keep the vm template and coinciding files on a file server share forever..

Thanks for any info, urls or suggestions at all

Assuming you're using Windows Server 2008 w/ Hyper-V, yes. There is a update for Hyper-V that upgrades it from the beta version in 2008 to the RTM version. Install that.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Thanks Pat,

I found the download for the "newer" Windows server 2k3 Hyper-V release... cool!
