While building the windows 2008 cluster, the initial cluster validation throws one error saying " operating system is not SKU compatible". Thats the only error i have to pass/rectify to build the cluster. Can somebody help?

FYI: This is a windows 2008 cluster setup with a Fibre channel JBOD attached. No SCSI reservation issues.

Thanks.

Are all cluster nodes running the same version of Server 2008? SKU is stock keeping unit, used by retailers/vendors to differentiate between different models. In the Microsoft sense it could be a difference between a Standard or Enterprise version of the OS. OEM and retail versions use difference SKUs as well. The same goes for MSDN, volume license versions, etc.

With Windows 2008 clustering it is extremely specific when validating the cluster. This is because the overwhelming majority of MS support calls regarding clusters was due to incompatible/mismatched hardware or software. So with 2008 they now require the cluster to pass validation before you can activate the cluster, and all nodes have to be identical before the validation will succeed.

If you absolutely have to run the cluster on mismatched hardware/software I believe that there is an option to set up the cluster even though it fails validation. However, Microsoft will not provide support for non-validated clusters.
