Windows 2003 Server Question????

I have a Windows 2003 Server as a primary domain controller which I also use for a file server. I would like to add Exchange 2003 server to my domain but feel it would tax my primary server too much so I want to purchase a second server for mail only.

Can I add a Windows 2003 Small Business Server to my existing domain to run email? Or will I have to purchase regular copies of Windows 2003 Server and Exchange 2003?
