I have done everything I know to do witht this server. Every client that is connected to the network gets a valid IP addy from the server, but nope are able to access the internet unless I take and manually input a IP addy. This problem ahs kept me confused for a long time and I have tried everything short of rebuilding the server software. This is a windows server 2003 R2 and it is an AD. It does resolve the addys for each client and each client is able to access all the intranet applications that are on the server. They just are unable to access the internet, unless the addys are manually inputed. Hoping someone can shed som light on this for me.

On a PC that has been given an IP address from the server, if you go to start, run cmd, and then type IPconfig /all do they get DNS servers?

From the Pc can you ping 216.239.59.147?

(google)

If you can the Pc does have an internet connection, and the problem maybe DNS

I have the fowarders set for the ISP. The IP address the clients are using is the AD IP address. As for the DNS they are pulling a valid IP address, I have to manually input an address for them to access to the internet. Here is the ipconfig all for the client:

Any help??

What happens when you do an nslookup on a site? Something like nslookup google.com

Cory

If you are able to resolve internal requests, such as a pc on the network then your dns server is probably functioning alright but the forwarders are screwed up somewhere in the line. (assuming your logins are fine of course)

Thats me just shootin from the hip.

I did rellok at the DNS today and now the nslookup resovles the server name and IP Address. I stil am unable to get a client computer to get to the internet, unless I assign the IP. It is strange that I can access all aspects of the network but the internet by automatic DHCP.

Frank,
Will you post an ipconfig /all from a client on DHCP, and then post it again after you have manually assigned the addy (from the same machine, please)?

I suspect either the DNS suffix or the default gateway is different.

Why is your default gateway and DNS server the same IP? Are you routing everyone through your server for some reason and not your router?

Also...you've not enabled DHCP.

Normally a ".1" on the 4th octet indicates a router address, which would be correct for the default gateway setting.

What is the actual IP of your server that is serving up DHCP? The IPCONFIG's you provided all show DHCP enabled = no, which tells us that someone has entered the information for DNS, Gateway, IP, etc. and would also explain why your clients aren't pulling from DHCP...because they have hard coded IP information.

Check that first.
