Windows 2003 server network stopped after update

We have a Windows 2003 SP1 server that has been operational for a couple of years. We recently installed Windows Updates on the server, and after it rebooted, it cannot connect on the network.

Pinging anything from the server, you get "destination host unreachable". I've verified the IP settings, including subnet mask and gateway, are correct. I've uninstalled the NICs and rebooted, and it redetected it, but still no network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried rolling back the updates to see if the problem goes away? If it does, then apply one update at a time instead of all of them at once until you find the one that causes the problem.

Also, you should never update device drivers from Microsoft. Update them from the device manufacturer instead.

Good luck,

Check that the NIC(s) speed/duplex match the switch settings. Some drivers are better than others at auto-detecting. Also, are you using the Windows firewall? Did it enable itself? We've been burned by that.
