ok here is the scenerio
had a windows 2003 server with exchange 2003 running on ASUS p4c 800e deluxe board, two individual SaTa barracudas one c drive one d, somehow the d drive which just has storage file, has the ntldr, boot.ini on it, the c drive has all the 2003 installation on it...

my problem is the ASUS board finally died, memory controller went south.

Trying to get it up and running on Abit Fatality board IN 9 sli board

have tried useing Acronis True Echo with universial restore, to clone an image back over top of the barracudas attached to the abit, it says completed, yet blue screens and reboots before getting to the splash screen, i cant get it to boot up.. i have tried plugging in the image to another pc and can get it mounted in read/write mode..

windows 2003 can see the drives naturally when i try to do a complete reinstall.. but i would like to get the server running from the image... anyone have any suggestions or tips?

tried sysprep on server when it was running on asus mobo, but sysprep gave me incompatiable error, universial restore should reset hal and such, yet it isnt booting...

You need to rebuild and restore config/data in order to be in a supported solution. Plenty of MS white papers on doing a disaster recovery of both Windows and Exchange.

Building a "new" server on different hardware using imaging software is going to be way too much effort.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

When you used Acronis, did you specify new drivers before laying down the image? You need to make sure the disk drivers (at least) are correct when restoring.

Yes, added Nforce drivers to the restore for the SaTa controller, and Lan, im just not sure its redoing the hal correctly, it should replace it, since its going from p4 2.5 (non HT) to a Quad core 6600....its been a real challenge, since Acronis didnt even give me the option to use UR at first, since the boot loader files were located on d drive, which is where mounting the image on another pc and copying them came in, but even then, but after going over my steps, i dont think i used drivers on this last attempt, that might be an issue, just assumed i wouldnt need sata drivers since 2003 had them allready if i run a clean install, might have to used the modified image and try drivers again.
