windows 2003 firewall

I have turned on firewall in windows 2003 and allow exception. The exception include file and printer sharing, msdtc.exe , port 1433, port 2008, remote desktop, sqlserver.exe, sqlbrowser.exe and snmp.exe . Now when I try to open the mapped drive to folder in the win2003 server, it failed and I tried to make connection using ODBC to this server and it failed as well. But when I turned the firewall off, both works. Can anyone please help? Thanks.

Why have you turned on the firewall on this server, is it an external facing server?
