Hi ALL,
We have a 2003 domain controller with XP workstations and if I shut the domain controller down no one can log into their pc's. Is there a setting on the domain controller that will prevent this from happening. I want everyone to still beable to work if the domain is down. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Scott

I believe a copy of the user profile is cached on there pc. so if you login to the pc when the AD is down you will have no problem loggin into the pc. it may take a few mins but you can still login.

Now what about your DNS??? DHCP???

why would you want to shut down the controller? are you using the controller for something other then a controller that would cause you to reboot or shutdown?

Best practices is to have more than one DC and GC.

If the DHCP/DNS solution is down, I can see it taking quite a while to log in, but you should still be able to login.
